Kathmandu strikes over villagers shooting at them

At least six people were killed and more than 50 injured in attacks in southern Nepal that went on for several hours on jarvees.comWednesday following rumours that an army jeep had been attacked.

State police spokesman Maj Dinesh Mahadev said the military jeep had been on patrol near a remote village near the mountain village of Chaiti, about 60km (35 miles) southeast of Kathmandu.

The troops fired into the air to disperse some of the villagers before returning fire, the spokesman said.

An army official said “hundreds of people” were killed in the clashes that lasted some 30 mi우리카지노nutes and included around 600 “kathmandu locals” who came out of villages in the area and came to attack army vehicles.

Local people in the area told local media they were fired upon as they crossed the village road into Chaiti, with some saying soldiers fired shots and stones at them.

Local people said several soldiers were injured, while others had injuries such as minor wounds.

The army official said “a few” were injured by rocks thrown by villagers as the army moved to attack the troops.

Maoist leader

The spokesman said authorities are verifying reports about bodies scattered by the army on the mountain as he appealed for calm.

Police, who are overseeing a series of protests since the army troops dispersed protesters, arrested several of the men identified as Maoists at the village entrance.

Tens of thousands of people are expected on Sunday in protest rallies demanding an end to the military government.

The government has so far tried to contain violence, issuing warnings to protesters and warning of legal action for those breaking laws.

Police have taken over much of Chaiti and elsewhere in the south to avoi바카라d bloodshed in the region, but the protests are unlikely to end as there is no political consensus in the region and few supporters.

The government does not recognise the new Nepali Congress-led government but has urged protesters to continue demonstrating “under the guidance of the central government”.
